Hello all.
I'm an amatuer trumpet player and have been playing trumpet since 1979.
Started just prior to High School on a Conn 16B student model. in 1983 as I was graduating, my trumpet instructor sold me his old Yamaha YTR-734 pro horn. I played from about 1983 - 1993 on my own, mostly by ear, until I was coerced into joining a community band. A friend from high school played in this group and they were short a few trumpet players. I joined the Mount Community Concert Band (at the College of Mount Saint Joseph in Cincinnati, OH
www.mount-band.org) and have been a member ever since. We're blessed to have a great director, good musicians and a friendly atmosphere. I've been around for about 13 years and some folks still consider me one of the new guys.
My YTR-734 was made in about 1970 and has had the valves replated and a new leadpipe. March of 2006 I treated myself to a new horn. I wanted to get away from the lightweight horn in favor of a more standard one. I ended up with a Conn Vintage One (1BR-46). It's the laquered rose brass model. I chose it over the Bach because I liked the valves a bit better and the rounded tuning slide option really make the horn blow very free. I also like the look of the rose brass. Nothing wrong with the Bach, just for me I liked this horn better. It also comes with the modular valve weights which I can't say do a whole lot for me. Coming from a lightweight Yamaha, I tend to favor a more responsive horn.
I occasionally play in a church music group, though they prefer not to lose me as a singer. We sing SATB 4 part harmony with 2 people per part so I'm half of the tenor section.
That's enough for now, great to meet you all (though some names I recognize from rec.music.makers.trumpet)
