| It is in fact a fair amount lighter than a standard Elkhart C trumpet, but about the same in terms of weight as a Mt. Vernon.
The Chicago has a much brighter and focused sound than the standard Bach C, which is darker and rounder.
While the Chicago is like the Mt. Vs in terms of the brightness and focus of the sound, it doesnt have any of the core of the Mt. Vernons. It doesnt have a great dark, soft sound like the vintage ones. When playing something like the Great Gate of Kiev, it is a little harder to notice the difference between the new one and old because both light up so easily. However, playing the soft solos in Mahler 2 sounds unbelievably better on the Mt. V.
All in all though, it is a very good horn, just not the best IMHO |
