Am I the only one that thought the Philadelphia Chamber Orchestra could have played a bit softer?
With the Tomasi it was a bit easier to win the battle... but on the Camino a Jalisco the trumpet was often hidden by the orchestra. To my ears it was one of those cases where the soloist showed much more sensitivity to dynamic changes while the orchestra was still on the last movement of the Tomasi....

We know Hofs can blow... so if he wnated to go to guns with the orchestra he could have...
Another question for anyone that can answer...
A year ago the Phoenix Symphony had NAKARIAKOV here and he was scheduled to play the Arutiunian. But he did not. Rumor was that the orchestra could not afford the rental fees (orchestral parts)... rumor... maybe it just wasn't available.
Can anyone address this? I would imagine the fees are high and I'm sure renting both the Tomasi and the Arutiunian was not cheap! Anybody have a clue how much the rental fees are?
Just curious.
