| Wow - you guys are on your game! All great ideas so far.
It's hard to name specific players because there are so many (but I will try to make a general list below). I would start by saying that every section should have 4/5 great players, NOT 4/5 lead players! So many contractors boast about their sections, "I hired 4 guys who can all play double C's". To me, that's not necessarily a great trumpet section.
I would like to have a lead player, and second player (who can play lead as well), a great section player (maybe can play some jazz, some lead, but is a great "team" player), and a great soloist. I would love to have 4 guys/gals who check their egos at the door and are interested in creating a great section sound.
I love to play lead, but I also love to play inner parts under a great lead player. I consider it a fun challenge to latch on to their pitch, volume, phrasing, etc...
Now the fun part - in no particular order: Snooky Young, Conrad Gozzo, Al Porcino, Chuck Findley, Wayne Bergeron, Bob Millikan, Dave Stahl, Ron Stout, Gary Grant, Greg Gisbert, John Frosk, Marvin Stamm, Bernie Glow, Ernie Royal, Dave Ballou, John Thomas, Buddy Childers, Rick Baptist, Conte Condoli, Joe Wilder, etc...
I'm sure I'm leaving out tons of great section players, but that's a start.
