oldlou has a spectacular aura about
Getting 'stiffed'.

When I was relatively new to professional photography I was foolish enough that I contracted to do some wedding photography. I learned a LOT, really fast. As you have already been told a contract is an imperitive. You have no legal claim for payment from the contractor without a contract in writing, signed by all responsible parties and notorized. In most cases, the bride's mom is the worst culprit. I will go so far as to say that in almost every wedding that I shot, the mother of the bride ended up being a first class bitch. They all demanded more than they had contracted to pay for and got really nasty when the terms of the contract were shown to them. If wedding music is your thing, at least become enough of a businessman that you have a contract in advance and at least 50 percent up front, balance immediately upon completion of the job.

As to your current dilemma, I wish you my best, and will cross my fingers for you.
