You'll need to do some homework. Most people play this tune in G minor (the Miles Davis key). However, some people learned it out of the old Real Book or elsewhere and play it in different keys. You'll either need to sus it out in several keys or find out the most common key for the tune is in your area. This is usually a regional thing. |
Autumn Leaves is one of the easiest tunes to transpose, for it's basically just a ii-V-I progression in a major key and then its relative minor. Once you get the hang of it, it falls into place pretty easily.
