I really like the Seite Canciones Populares by Manuel de Falla (mezzo-soprano version lies really easily for trumpet and/or flugel, plus you can improvise some virtuostic stuff in there).

On a recital last year, I did "Beim Schlafengehen" from Strauss' Four Last Songs, and it worked well. Song transcriptions are a good source of other rep, as are pieces for violin, oboe, horn, etc. (Schumann's Drei Romanzen comes to mind).

Alternatively, you could find a song you like and make a creative transcription of it. See for example, Brad Meldhau's treatment of the Radiohead song "Paranoid Android" on his album Largo.
