I do agree with flinch. Why make your job harder? It was bright - so what? Probably if you played it on the so called Bach clarino (its kind of high pitched horn in F) probably it would be darker. Rotary pic - the only two I know are the Scherzer and Lehner. Scherzer is good, has very beautiful sound but me personally I would not get the high notes with it. I uused to play a French Besson Pic which was very good instrument, and easy to play. Schilke sound to me as good choice. Selmer - I would not take the Touvron Model. If you get the older model (probably signed Maurice Andre). The last Stomvi is not bad either. My preference is going to the Spada Pic http://www.spada-music.ch/seiten/112_1.htm but I would be surpised if you can get this horn in US
