Goodbye to a great club.

Yesterday morning, out of the blue, they announced that the Montreal Bistro in Toronto has closed it's doors for good. The club was around for about 25 years and was one of the premier spots in Toronto to play. It was a great room with a nice stage. It had a no talking policy, so you never had to strain over drunken people to hear the players do their thing. When jazz legends came to Toronto, they either played at the Bistro or at the Senator. THe Senator closed about 6 months ago.

The last time I was at the Bistro was about two months ago when I saw Slide Hampton play with Russ Liddle.

While new clubs are opening up all the time, this one was one of the best. To me, of the clubs that I consider "the big three", only one is around anymore. These "big 3" were the Bistro, the Senator and the Rex. The Rex is all that is left now.
