I noticed your quip' about Wynton and Chet.
That's another tip: I really enjoy Wynton's improvisational stuff, especially on his softer ballad style. Unique and often quite surprisingly musical and comlicated. "MIDNIGHT BLUES" CD..has much of this quality that I really enjoy.
Yes, you mention Chet Baker...
What a life, born simply with one greatest gift in mind for our world. His trumpet music...(Can't say the same for his singing voice...although it really helps illustrate and set the mood for attempting to begin the impossible task of understanding what this complicated tragic soul of his, had in mind...n'all that jazz.
Can you begin to just imagine what it would have been like to WALK IN HIS SHOES? Ouch! | Bad Boy Chet sang like he played if you know what I mean....His voice was also his trumpet if you understand what I mean. If you listen to him sing it is like he is soloing on trumpet. Getting back to the Wynton quote...What did Chet Mean by that....I think he meant There is one Chet and there is one Wynton...Why Copy one another.

Well, if I could play like Wynton (Marsalis), I wouldn't play like Wynton.
