That is the general consensus. The Shepherd's Crook provides a bit more resistance and is a bit more mellow. Most British Brass Bands want shepherd's crook cornets for that reason (although most are not real picky as long as it has a cornet sound).

If you have the chance to play both of them, I would do that. Buy the one you like the best.
