In my experience this was the right choice (certainly better than a Bach), but it probably wouldn't have hurt you to have tried more and had someone more experienced with you to give a second opinion and allow you to hear the horns. You really ought to have been able to tell some differences in feel/blow/sound between the two as well, if you were ready for horns of this caliber.

That being said, as the others have pointed out now would be the time to get practicing and enjoy the horn.
