| The evening of my 30th birthday I spent in a hotel room in Chicago with Clark Terry and several others after a Clark performance at the old Rick's Cafe in what used to be the Holiday Inn on the lake at 620 North Lakeshore Drive, drinking cognac and telling stories, until the sun was about to come up. One of the greatest birthdays. Clark is a natural raconteur and an extremely funny mf to boot. I cherish the stories I got that night.
