I'm a Cincinnati native too. My sophmore year of highschool is a distant memory. Did your band play in Roger Bacon's Band invitational this year. I took my 3 daughters to see the contest. I think that one of the bands was from Batavia.
Good luck with your trumpet playing. I'm currently teaching 2 of my daughters how to play. They're ages 6 and 9. The 9 year old seems to have a good ear, she's able to make minor adjustments to match my pitch (and she only knows 3 notes so far C,D and E). They have trouble holding the horn up after a while.
