I can't answer your question, but I did look up the
Peter Meremblum Youth Orchestra and it sounds like it was a great environment to develop young players. Based on what I know about the Principal trumpet players in the New York Philharmonic, I'm guessing that none of the players on this list would have been in Peter Meremblum's orchestra. Glantz was already in the NYP when Meremblum's Youth Orchestra began in 1936. Vacchiano was also in the NYP prior to 1936 and assumed the principal postion in 1942. I don't believe that any of the other players on the list grew up in California. Possibly the player that you are thinking about was a section player with the New York Philharmonic?
