If you approach the picc as if it is a big trumpet it will punish you. Comparing the piccolo trumpet to a normal Bb trumpet is like comparing a trumpet and a trombone - with the exception that hardly any of us use trombone mouthpieces on our trumpets.
In any case, the pitch that you buzz into the horn is what comes out the front regardless if it is a tuba, trombone, Bb trumpet or picc.
I would be interested to know how to set my chops for A=440. I generally negotiate with my trumpets tuning slide for that...................(just kidding)
