| Re: excerpts and mutes The fact is we have so many mutes (you really wouldn't believe it if you saw our mute self... I'm not exaggerating when I say there are over a hundred mutes of varying types and sounds) that I use different mutes for the same pieces.
I have some favorites, though. For soft playing we have Hickman's mute and we have these wooden mutes made in Köln. Rick Giangiulio's TrumCor mutes are excellent for many differnt types of playing and play extremely well in tune as do the METAL Marcus Bona mutes. I very much dislike the fiberglass ones.
We also have some Turkish (I think) mutes that look as though they're made of hardened twine that were wrapped around some mute form that are also excellent.
On and on. Make your own choice based on color and intonation.
