Haven't played a Bach 1B flugel, but played a Bach 6B flugel and several of Mark Curry's flugel pieces. The Bach's just didn't seem to have the same smokey sound as the Curry FL. I prefer the 600 series rims over the standard curry rim, so if you want a comparable size to the Bach, you should definately give the Curry 80FL a try. If you're looking for a little brighter sound, and more control in the upper register, go with the 80FLM (slightly shallower). Myself, I prefer the FL cup - It's dark, smokey, and smooth sounding. I also much prefer the rounder, narrower rim of the Curry. If you like the Bach rims, then go with Marks standard series 1FL or 1FLM - His standard rims are based on a NY bach. World of difference between the Bach sound and the Curry sound. Curry being much smoother and darker...
