| tpt chamber rep./need everyone's input! Hi all,
My name is Jeff Work. I've been asked by my friend Marc Reese (Empire Brass) to write a modest article for the ITG Journal and my deadline has crept up on me a bit! (Marc edits its Chamber Music Column.)
The basic subject is: CHAMBER REPERTOIRE WITH TRUMPET, vague though that is. I'm leaning in the direction of 'mixed ensembles' and away from strictly brass music. (I'll also likely exclude vocal works, most baroque works, and works with only trumpet and keyboard.) My 'target audience' will be, perhaps, the very good grad student who's looking to give an unusual piece or two on a recital.
What are your favorites?
A few of mine are:
Hindemith Three Pieces for Five Instruments (tpt/cl/vn/db/pf)
Martinu Revue de Cuisine (cl/bsn/tpt/vn/vc/pf)
Heinrich Sutermeister Serenade Nr. 2 (tpt/ww5tet)
Francaix Le Gay Paris (tpt/nine winds)
Saint-Saens Septet (tpt/str5tet/pf)
Hilda Sehested (cornet/str5tet/pf)
Ewazen Quintet (tpt/str4tet or 5tet)
Ewazen Trio (tpt/vn/pf)
Stravinsky Octet and L'histoire
Yves Chardon Sonata (D tpt/cello)
William Walton Facade (narr/sax/tpt/vc/fl/cl/perc)
My article and my list will be incomplete in most people's eye's, I'm sure... I just want to give people, especially students, a good starting reference point.
Looking forward to finding some undiscovered gems, with your help! THANKS TO ALL.
~Jeff Work
PS. I would welcome tpt/perc suggestions but will probably mention only a few, since that's an entire article in and of itself. Are there a few that can't be omitted? (ie. Jolivet Heptade) |
