breaking in long-unused valves?

Hi TM. I am Bruce from Boston and just got my first trumpet--a silver Conn Victor #L93179 (1968?) from the basement of a friend, who gave it to me. The instrument has not been played for several years. I just had it "chem-cleaned" by my local shop (Osmun--they are super professional) which also replaced felts, corks, and springs (bottom-sprung btw).

I find the valves are quite temperamental--they often stick half-way up, other times they work freely. Is this normal break-in behavior for a recently resuscitated horn?

Also any comments on Conn Victors ca 1968 would be much appreciated.
