I must admit (although somewhat embarassedly) that this is my first time hearing Mr. Gil Johnson, as far as I can remember anyway. I am really touched by his purity of sound, his beautiful vibrato and the way he shapes this beautiful movement. (I bought the whole Mahler 1, but haven't listened to the entire piece yet. I'll do that on the way home). I wish I could have heard him live.
