Is it made of brass, or copper? Does it have a removable mouthpiece (maybe nickel plated) with some sort of curved rim? If copper, and the mouthpiece looks like some sort of decoration, it might be one of those fake english things made for tourists in India that used to be in vogue for hanging above fireplaces, etc.
One test to see if it is really a bugle is to play it outside your neighbor's door about sunrise. If they wake up and get out of bed, it is a genuine bugle!
