If it is in really good condition-- one thing to find out about is just how much use it has had, i.e. making sure the valves are still good even though the horn may look OK, but if it's as he says I don't think $1200 is out of line. Incidentally prices keep going up for new trumpets as we all have probably noticed. Unfortunatley these price increases haven't been done just out of capriciousness-- brass has way up for whatever reason in the last couple of years and the price of plating is skyrocketing due to tighter and tighter environmental controls. I've had word from a principle in the industry that in another few years we may well see close to doubling or more for new trumpets (yikes!). Used horns will follow so maybe we should buy as many as we can now (I like that idea but the wife isn't buying it!).
