The original instrument it is written for is a keyed natural trumpet, therefore a Bb or Eb valved trumpet are equally wrong. You should try and get a recording of it on original instrument. I have the Friedmann Immer recording.

Playing it on Eb trumpet makes sense but I do it on Bb and partly because Mr Tarr himself puts part of the third movement down an octave in his edited/reconstructed publication of it (with HC Robbins Landon). I don't think you could pl;ay it as written on an Eb three valve trumpet.
