You are certainly correct about the slap cups having more pointed attacks, and I agree with your recommendation that Trevor give them a try.

As I understand from conversations with the Dean Comley and Dave Monette when I last visited the shop, the rims are the same on slap and non-slap versions. (I couldn't feel any difference when play-testing either.) The more distinct attacks are due to differences in the shape of the area near the bottom of the cup (before it transitions to the throat).

I only point this out so that anyone who has a Monette rim they like doesn't worry that the rim will be different if they move to a slap cup. At the end of the day it doesn't matter how they are made - they are just great mouthpieces that are worth a try.
