$1000-$2000 is a pretty big spread! There are so many great instruments in that range!
I think that I can say the brand doesn't make much difference. If you get a professional Kanstul, Benge, Bach, Yamaha, Selmer, Getzen, B&S, or whatever (maybe Felix at NYTC has something in that range?), you will be able to get the job done very well. If you play test them and find a good one, none of those brands will limit you musically.
I disagree with the recommendation "buy a Bach (or Yamaha), it is the standard (or a copy)", for me that is too one sided. While it is true that many pros still play Bach, we see more and more alternatives finding there way into just about every type of music. This variety of sound is good for music!
