I'm with you 100%, Trent. What we think we're doing and how it actually comes out are, for most of us, different. I heard some "surprises" in something I did yesterday (along similar lines: intonation, tempo, clarity of articulation).
This has huge potential in the lesson/band rehearsal setting as well.
