To add to what Alex said about Leigh's design vs "tuneable bell"... you'll note that (all?) tuneable bells also have a "regular" tuning slide (either regular or "reverse") between the leadpipe and the 3rd valve. Not so with Leigh's ... one continuous run of tubing from the venturi all the way to the valve casing ferrule. That really seems to add to the stability of the individual notes and their accurate placement with the total elimination of the "internal bore steps" that would otherwise exist.
And, unless the Eclipse has had the Will Spencer modification which allows for quick bell switching, the bell is solidly attached to the valve block/lead pipe rather than being "clamped". No worries about the relative "fragility" of regular "tuning bells". |
