| Re: Arutunian Concerto for Trumpet I actually play up the vibrato a lot in the opening when performing this piece. To me, this is the proper style for this work. Also, Arutunian is an Armenian composer (who is still alive - will be 87 this October). In this light I find the work more a collection of "folk and gypsy songs" rather than one big Russian Concerto. I have a recording by someone I won't mention because I don't recommend it. It is way too straight and not a good example IMHO. The recommendations so far are much better. The main thing is to be musical and romantic when you play this work. Have fun! Use your imagination and really get lost in the piece. |
