If you were asked to play a concerto and you didn't feel it was a good one for you, would you be able to suggest an alternative, or is it basically just the choice of the MD?
Would you consider passing it down the section if you felt that one of the other guys would do a better job on that specific piece?

Reason for enquiry - I was chatting to a top London player many years ago and she had been asked to play Brandenburg - she just said no, it wasn't the sort of piece she felt she would do justice to so she passed it on to someone who was more of a specialist in that style.
