Re: "Pawn Shop Prizes" -- Anyone find any "Gems

Snared another great find!

A 1939 New York Bach "Mercury" Trumpet. Great shape ... almost no original lacquer left; valve-replate by Andersen; original. $450.

These are extremely rare. See the BachLoyalist.com - Home Page website ... the "bachology" -link.

Briefly, these have a small- bore (.440") ... the only small- bore Bb Trumpet manufactured by Bach. Reputed to be a "conservatory" instrument. Bottom-sprung valves. One piece mouthpipe/receiver.

There was a later (Mt Vernon-era) "Mercury"; but, not small-bore ... not bottom-sprung valves.

Plays well ... has a compact, "dense" core (few overtones, harmonics). Great for brass-ensemble, church. Nice, "different" jazz horn.

I was looking for another small-bore horn, for playing "intimate" (small) venues, where volume is an issue.

Yr Fthfl Srvnt,
Robt
