Dave Monette has chosen a different set of variables than most any other manufacturer. This results in a different basic intonation and a different basic "sound" than with other brands. I am pretty sure that he also uses brass for his mouthpieces of a different "weight" and "temper". This makes playing his stuff a different experience.
Whether this works or not depends on your willingness to use your body when playing in the way that Dave designed this stuff for - relaxed and aligned.
