I’ve been listening to “Big Blues” with Art Farmer and Jim Hall. I’m working on memorizing Art’s “A Child is Born” solo from this imported recording. I really enjoy Art’s sound and lyricism and want to incorporate these aspects into my trumpet and flugelhorn playing as much as possible and hopefully some day (maybe within the next 10, 20, or 30 years) have my own voice emerge from this context. This solo is very unique in that Art decides to use a Harmon flugel mute, which I’ve never heard about until this recording.

I’m also into flugelhorn recordings with Jim Hall. I’ve got one with Jim and Tom Harrell.
