It seems that the older I get, the more mellow I like my tone. I currently play on a Bach 3C. However, if I get a flugel, that will provide a good balance and I may want to keep the brighter tone on my trumpet. Who knows. |

http://www.iwasdoingallright.com/jazz_blog/102/ he describes his experience with a Jupiter 846RL flugelhorn. He had to spend money on repairs when it was NEW. Then he ended up giving up on flugels altogether. Maybe if he bought a better one to begin with he wouldn't have quit it.
I have the Kanstul Signature 1525 Flugelhorn (from Chuck Levin, but drop-shipped directly from the Kanstul factory). It came with no mouthpiece and requires a Bach shank. I found a Bach 3C, so that's what I'm using, which seems fine. I'll experiment with others as time goes by, but if you're using a 3C on the trumpet, it would seem wise to stay with the same for minimum problems transitioning from one to the other instrument.
