| Front Teeth Issues Hello all,
Don’t get me wrong – I love dentists. But I have a trumpet/dental issue that’s going to be causing me a 'lil dread in the coming weeks. Let me explain.
About eight years ago while working a summer job in college I had a bit of an industrial accident; an air wrench flung a piece of metal at my face that hit me square in the mouth. I needed four stiches in my bottom lip and I broke one of my upper front teeth clean in half. My dentist at the time attached a large filling to the end of the tooth. It took me weeks to get my chops back, and my sophmore-year college audition a few weeks later left something to be desired, to say the least.
My current dentist warned me at my last appointment that I’m going to need a crown on the tooth during the coming year to replace the filling, which is starting to show and feel its age. Unfortunately, my dentist has so far dismissed my concerns about having the thickness or shape of the tooth changing again, saying something to the effect that “we do crowns all the time.” Are there dentists around (I’m in Minnesota) that specialize in treating musicians with similar concerns? I remember it taking quite awhile for me to get used to my new tooth, it being slightly thicker than my original one.
I might feel better about having to go forward with this if I talk with a second dentist. Just wondering if anyone's been through a similar situation.
Take care,
Andy
