| Teachers & Influences Ingrid,
I’ve heard that you had studied with Laurie Frink and Art Farmer. I am familiar with Laurie’s teachings, as I had studied with her. I am not familiar with Art Farmer’s teachings, but I am familiar with his playing, as I have been memorizing and transcribing his solos. In fact, if I had to list my top three current favorite players it would be Art Farmer, Ingrid Jensen, and John McNeil.
What I am curious about is what Art had taught you in your lessons with him and is there a chance that his lyricism has influenced your playing? Anything that you can tell me about Art as a person or as a musician that is not known to the general public (even stories) would be greatly appreciated.
What makes me very interested in your playing is that you make the technical sound so lyrical, musical, and artistic. To me, that is an amazing feat! What makes me interested in Art’s playing is that he is so lyrical with such a beautiful sound.
In addition to these questions, I’d like to know who you would list as your main jazz influences. Are there any specific recordings that come to mind?
Thanks for bringing your music to me and to the entire jazz community! It means a lot to me.
