| Re: What do you think about when playing? I had a very cool experience yesterday while practicing which relates to this topic.
I was missing Mr. Vacchiano yesterday, just thinking about the stuff he used to say, his sound and whatnot. I picked up some of the method books he wrote that have come out posthumously and also a book by John Jorak of the Concone vocalises, It's a very complete work by Korak.
There's a set of warm-ups and the combination of the lyrial warm-ups and transposition studies that I was working on brought a very, very strong sound to my ear of Mr. Vacchiano. It was truly like having him there in the room (kitchen) with me, providing aural examples of everything I played. Channeling vacciano, I suppose. Anyways, it was the most enjoyable practice session I've had in a while because it really felt like I had his company, playing with me, advising me.
I love those moments where the memory is so strong it is palpable, easy to feel as real life. At any rate, I often think of great players playing for me as I work. That and a smile keep me very happy in this business.
