| Being a Union Member/Recording for Fun Hi Tony,
I joined the union here in Minneapolis a couple of months ago to do some theater and freelance work. Since then, I have been asked to perform and record with a local rock band. I'm friends with the guys in the band and enjoy it, so I don't mind not getting paid (we put all the profits in the "band fund" to cover travel, equipment, etc...)
We've bought some studio time and are planning to record a demo to shop around to record companies and possibly release on an independant label. I trust the guys in the band and know that when (or if) we start turning a profit, I will be fairly compensated. My question is whether I'm going to get in trouble with the union if the CD gets released and I just have an informal agreement. I tried looking in the union rules, but it seems really confusing and I'm not sure what category this fits into.
Thanks for the help,
Jimi |
