I'm very much inclined to do so Nick. Thanks!
Also, Ed was nice enough to provide me with the BBC Radio tip, the show "Listen to the Band "
BBC - Radio 2 - Listen to the Band Home Page
to which I'm listening now.
I also saw the "Further Information" link on the page and took a peek at the publication "4 Bars Rest."
Now y'all probably know about all this already, but I don't. I've looked the Bandsman site before, but never could really make heads nor tails of it.
According to "4 Bars Rest, it seems there's an influx of foreign cornetists at contest time and a bit of a hubbub ensues. Norwegans at that! I know it's deadly serious for those involved, but I can't help recalling the old PDQ Bach routine where a symphonic concert is broadcast over the radio as if it were a football match. Very Funny! So and so is being traded to another symphony for a bassonist and tuba player to be named later.
Actually the whole things sounds very cool to me. Much preferable getting worked up about Brass Bands battling it out on the field of battle (it's sorta pitched that way) than the Super Bowl.
We Yanks don't do this sort of thing. But the verve and passion are a bit luring nonetheless.
