The Strauss Four last Songs are a set of songs that keeps on giving. When you are young, the challenge of the phrase and the beauty of the orchestration are inescapable. As you get older the text becomes more meaningful as you start to review the half of the life you've led and muse on the life to come.

I got to hear Jessye with the Berlin Phil in Chicago back in the 80's. I even met her afterward and told her that we had worked together in Minneapolis and also in Seattle. What a gentle, sweet lady!

Yeah, wonderful, haunting stuff, that.
