Vince, you have a point! It doesn't matter what we call it, when it is your turn, you have to match the rest. There are reasons (like room temperature and humidity that goes up when a lot of people are present) why the pitch goes up and down when playing. Who cares? If you come in flatter than the rest, it is your fault!
I know of no critic who checks the tuning of an orchestra while performing. Maybe the frustrated would have something to write about?
