| Re: PRIUS more harmful than HUMMER! Hybrid bashing is almost as bad as Monette bashing.
Leaving the polititians out of this(they are always looking for oversimplified things to profile with) we need to take a look at what a hybrid can offer besides expense/cost savings.
At the typical low speeds in town, the electric motor does the work. This does not cause pollutants where we work and live. The electric motor also generates very little noise, meaning that if more people were using them, things would become more quiet. The relative performance of the electric motor does not give us the urge to burn rubber.
The battery recycling issue is often quoted as the real cost issue. Give me a break. What ecological problems do our refineries cause? Has anyone ever added that to the total cost of driving? What about the effects of pollution on health and even the cost of renovating buildings because of the effects of exhaust gasses.
Our oil will not last forever. The hybrids are emerging technology that may be part of a solution one day. There are plenty of planet friendly alternatives to generate electric power. I know of none for gasoline......
Like my stand on Monette trumpets, these creative attempts to offer an alternative should be greeted with open arms. They are not the solution for everybody. If the competition pays attention, they will learn something valuable however!
The fact that the Hummer was used in comparison, shows the real intention of the report - to polarize proving NOTHING. I find this disgusting. There is no common denominator between those vehicles or their markets. There are plenty of people that get sucked into this type of manipulation however.
