both horns are great and would serve you well... however... its no joke the LA indeed has that LA Sound to it - It's a real west coast, studio sound.... which is great if you're into that and want that sound. If you want something a touch smokier, I'd say go with the Xeno Special Series. If you're going to be doing ANY crossover, i.e. church gigs, etc, I'd say go with the LA. It is a very very versatile horn, sounds great, and isn't that bad on your wallet.
