| Re: boosey and hawkes As Trumpetmike has mentioned, the B&H 400 was not actually made by B&H and had a chequered history. It was the cheapest brass instrument on the market in the UK for several years and was only ever intended to offer a start for beginners. The 400 trumpet was made by at least 3 separate factories around the world and while, as trumpet mike says, most were effectively rubbish, a few were actually very good for the price.
There was also a B&H 400 cornet also intended for schools and youth brass bands etc. This was made by at least 4 different factories in at least 3 distinct styles and models. There is one version with the same style and shape as the Getzen Eterna with the strange tuning slide at the bottom of the cornet. This type of 400 was made in Taiwan and is very good value for the money as it changes hands for between £50 and £100 and is an excellent instrument for that sort of money. It is well made and finished with nice sound and good intonation. All of the ones like this that I have seen are silver plated if that means anything. |
