| Re: New Method Book for Jazz Trumpet Players Hi Tom:
The exercises are not "difficult" at all. However if you try to play a pattern in all twelve keys without writing them down.......even the easiest patterns can become a challenge. If you think of the popular technical studies book by Clarke ,if he had only written each exercise in one key, the book would have been like ten pages long. More importantly, most players would probably not have practiced the Clarke book completely unless he wrote it all out. When I was working out of his smaller "handbook" I would normally just play the exercises in a couple of keys.....after that I would quit playing the pattern due to a combination of laziness and frustration.
Writing out all the exercises is a really good idea on Rich's part. |
