Re: Stage 1: California Light

Hello Richard!
Glad to be part of this site as well, don't know what took me so long.
The more I play on this Horn the more I enjoyment I receive. Intonation is dead on in all registers, notes slot very easily, valve action is already smooth and quick. This axe has lighten quick response and this makes articulations very clean and without much effort. In many ways, the horn plays itself. With the minimal bracing, she feels alive in your hands, and it just feels right when you hold it when playing. I am finding out that this horn is like a Chameleon. It can sizzle and cut thru very easily in a Big Band setting and play mellow, dark and fat in a smaller ensemble setting. Man, Felix set me up with two Tuning Slide configurations: Square, and Round. The horn timbre changes noticably when you interchange between the two. I was looking for this horn to give me a bit more resistance from the Trumpet wall when I began the process of working with Felix and I could not be happier with the end result! Exactly what I was looking for. As far as some of my fellow "Trumpetheads" playing on it, I had to pry their lips and fingers off to get it back!!! They are all in agreement that she sings as pretty as she looks! As I stated @ the other site, Felix and Garry of NYTC are what's happening in the world of Custom Horns!

"Some days you get up and put the horn to your chops and it sounds pretty good and you win. Some days you try and nothing works and the horn wins. This goes on and on and then you die and the horn wins."
