I've played it on both Bb trumpet and on A cornet. I personally like the slightly different timbre from the 1st part that you get with the cornet. (Contrast is good, at least to my taste). But I've played for conductors who wanted a more even sound between the trumpets, and it works that way as well.

Fun part no matter what horn you play it on!
