Looking at the hysterical aspect, the bigger horn probably provides a better blend with the bass (if he is a REAL bass).
A Piccolo or G trumpet sound generally didn't sound powerful enough to me to RAISE THE DEAD, although enough cracked notes on a not adequately dusted off D would probably change the direction of this piece................. something about the trumpets mortality, or so.........
My preference is simplicity. I stick to to ink unless given license to stretch out. The basso and I usually sit down and plan strategy. I like to keep it simple
