Yes, you should have seen the smile on my face when I opened the case. I think I said the same thing. I wanted that turn-of-the-century cornet look (1900, not 2000!), and I think this is it. I'm partial to lacquered horns, especially ones with tri-color metals, like the Olds Recording.
Short story - I joined a brass band a few years ago and needed a good cornet. I wanted this exact model horn, and sold my Mt. Vernon Strad trumpet on eBay to raise the funds. Problem was, I couldn't find a Bach dealer who was willing to order it for me. A special order cornet like this - short model, large bore, gold brass bell, deluxe engraving - would take a year or more to get. I found this one used (a '93 model) on a web site and bought it. Turned out to be the best playing horn I've ever owned. Last year I discovered that the artist who had engraved Bach horns for many years has her own business and could do the factory "Bach Stradivarius Deluxe" engraving on my cornet. That was the last thing missing from my vision, so off it went to Sherry Huntley of "Artistic Engraving". Less than 2 weeks later, it's back on my doorstep. I highly recommend her work.
