Straight Mute

1. Loud playing (ex: opening to pines of rome)
Alessi Vacchiano G by Leblanc (as stated). definitely a staple, if you own one this is the one to own.
Harmon straight - slightly brighter and tinnier (more 20's ish) but loud and defined.
2. Soft playing (ex: La Mer solo's)
Tom Crown - a darker less defined sound – good for soft passages.

PS: I have played the light wood straight mute, but the concept (like an older “cardboard-style”) sounds very interesting and with a light quality wood I would be interested to see one again. If anyone has a line on a source please post it.
